Native Americans of Rich County
Taken from "Randolph a Look Back"

In the Early 1870's when the first settlers came to the "Bear River Valley", the area was still considered home by many of the Indians.  Bannock, Ute and Shoshone Indians often encamped in or traveled through Rich County.  The Deseret News, in reporting Brigham Young's first visit to Randolph in June of 1871, stated that a large  number of Indians who were encamped near Randolph rode into town to get a view  the president.  "Even though Washakie, Chief of the Shoshones, had recognized the inevitable and had previously given his permission for whites to settle in all parts of the area, there is evidence that some Indians resented the newcomes.
